Troubleshooting Guide

for West Bend Dove(C4D) Distiller

 Problem Experienced  Possible Cause  Solution
 Start button does not light up Distiller not plugged into outlet Plug distiller into an appropriate electrical outlet. The distiller's operating voltage is indicated on the rating label
 Distiller does not operate Distiller not plugged into outlet  See above
  Start button has not been pushed Push start button. Red indicator lamp will glow
   Outlet is defective or fuse or circuit breaker has tripped  Check fuses or circuit breakers or call electrician
  Wire(s) may be disconnected inside distiller. Open control housing; reconnect wires to appropriate connectins. Refer to electrical diagram.
Fan Runs but boiler does not heat up  Boiler is not fully inserted. Push boiler fully into the distiller.
  Boiler is not filled with water. An internal thermostat will stop the distiller if it is started with a "dry" boiler. Remove boiler. Remove lid from boiler. Allow boiler to cool for 15 minutes. Fill boiler with cold water and restart the distiller.
  Screws on "strix" control not tight. Remove black control shroud from "strix" control. Tighten 3 gold screws. Replace black control shroud. Fill boiler with cold water and restart the distiller.
   "Strix" control melted. Replace "strix" control on boiler and replace "strix" socket in distiller. It is a good idea to replace the socket wires. Refer to electrical diagram.
  Heating element dead.  Replace heating element
Boiler produces less than one gallon per cycle Boiler is not full Fill boiler to the bottom of the recessed collar
  Boiler cap is not rully seated. Turn cap(clockwise) until it is tight.
  Boiler O-ring needs to be cleaned. Remove cover O-ring. Clean O-ring using mild detergent.
  Boiler O-ring is damaged. Replace boiler O-ring.
  Thermostat sensor may be defective Replace thermostat. Refer to electrical diagram.
Distilled water has an unusual taste. Carbon post filter is contaminated. Replace carbon post filter
  Water bottle is in need of cleaning Clean water bottle with soap and water. Refer to owners manual.
  Boiler has been overfilled. Do not overfill boiler. Fill to bottom of the recessed collar at the top of the boiler.
Fan does not turn Fan blades are bent. Hitting fan motor. Remove top cover and carefully lif blades so blades turn freely. Reinstall cover.
  Fan blades are bent. Hitting top vent cover. Remove top vent cover and carefully push down blades so blades turn freely. Reinstall cover. Install new vent cover.
  Wires disconnected Open control housing and reconnect all wires. Refer to electrical diagram.
  Fan motor does not function. Replace fan motor. Refer to electrical diagram.
Distiller operates for one hour and then stops.  Thermostat sensor wire loose  Remove top vent cover and reconnect wires.
   Thermostat sensor faulty  Remove top vent cover and replace thermostat
   Theremostat not making good contact with condensing coil.  Remove top vent cover and remove thermostat, add a heat sink compound to thermostat and replace thermostat on condensing coil.
   Control board defective  Remove control housing and replace control board. Refer to electrical diagram.
 Water leaks from boiling chamber cover  Boiler O-ring needs to be cleaned.  Remove cover O-ring. Clean O-ring using mild detergent.
   Boiler O-ring is damaged.  Replace boiler O-ring
   Boiler cap is not fully seated  Turn cap(clockwise) until it is tight.
